TNB can only institute “Net-metering” for premises having BIPV installations after the relevant application has been processed by TNB to create an account number for the meter that registers the electricity generated by the PV system. This also requires that the meter installed to register the PV generated electricity is a TNB certified and calibrated meter so that its readings can be acknowledged as that of a “revenue meter”.
Currently the reconciliation of the value of PV generated electricity with the customer’s electricity bill will be done manually through the creation of a “Credit Note”,
TNB shall only endorse the MBIPV processed applications for grid connection and net-metering according to the alternative mechanisms detailed hereunder. The alternative grid connections shall be:
Direct feed into the TNB distribution grid (i.e. at the TNB incoming supply point)
Indirect feed through the consumer’s main or auxiliary distribution board (MDB or DB)
The application must be made on designated forms as listed under “Grid Connection of the BIPV System”.
The net-metering configuration and energy flows are shown below:
Direct Feed (DF)
Indirect Feed (IF)
The TNB bill to be paid is the same whether the BIPV system connects as Direct feed or Indirect feed.
